In English, we have been practising writing dialogue and using accurate speech punctuation. We know that to be successful we must:
- use inverted commas around the spoken words,
- start a new line for a new speaker,
- use a comma before the speech,
- punctuate accurately inside the inverted commas,
- and use reporting clauses or action beats to show who is speaking.
