Welcome to Year 5!
My name is Miss Maguire and I am the class teacher; I am thrilled to work alongside Mrs Kaba and Miss Clarke (who both work with us every morning). All members of staff in year 5 work together to provide your child with a high-quality education, aiming to make lessons memorable, motivating and meaningful. We strive to make learning enjoyable, ensuring that all children succeed in preparation for year 6.
Home learning is an important part of children’s education which we aim to make accessible for all children. Please encourage your child to complete their homework every week as it will benefit them with their learning in school. Reading is an integral part of a child’s education, therefore listening to your child reading at home is extremely important. On Mondays reading homework is due in as well as a signature to say that your child has read at home. In addition to this, homework is given out on Mondays which is due in on Friday ; this involves spellings and grammar or maths. This year, we are excited to be using Spelling Shed where children can practise their spellings through fun and interactive games. It is also important that your child continues to practise their times tables as this will help them in their learning – hit the button is a great way to practise. If your child is struggling with homework at home, please come and see me regrading homework club.
This term, our PE lessons will take place on a Monday and Friday afternoon, however this isn’t set in stone as our timetable can always change, so please can you make sure your child’s PE is always in school. At St Gregory's, we also deliver after-school clubs so please encourage your child to come along. If you'd like to take a look at what we are learning about, please see our long term plan in the link below. I am always available to chat so please come and see me at the end of the day if you have any problems or would just like a chat.
We very much look forward to the year ahead.
