The School Library

Twice a month, every child visits our wonderful school library to choose from a large selection of books. Each child can choose one book from a range of fiction or non-fiction texts to take home and read for pleasure, either by themselves or with someone else.

Books must be returned before new books are issued. Each child has TWO WEEKS to read their book before returning it. A timetable of when your child's class will be visiting the library can be found here.

Having opportunities to make choices over the books you read as a young child, helps to develop a love of reading for life. Memories are formed and some books can become like friends that stay with us into adulthood.

At St. Gregory's, we partner with Lancashire Schools Library service to receive new, good quality, contemporary titles that make the experience of visiting the library enjoyable and we are adding new titles to the library each year.

We also hold Book Fairs during the academic year and mark World Book Day each March by giving each child a token to purchase a book for themselves. All these initiatives increase the opportunities for children to develop the 'reading bug' and help them in their reading journey.
